Announcement for 2025

Announcement for 2025

Nyle DiMarco (famous deaf model & actor) signing Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I would like to announce that starting January 2025, I am no longer doing online classes. The primary reason for this change is that in-person interactions allow us to observe the subtle nuances of facial expressions and ASL (American Sign Language) that can often be lost in online settings. This means you’ll learn more effectively and deeply during our face-to-face sessions.

I am available to travel for one-on-one ASL classes, depending on the day, time, and distance. If you’re interested or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Wishing you all a healthy and joyous 2025!

Underwater Signing

Underwater Signing

Two friends sign to each other under the water surface.

Are you familiar with Underwater Sign Language (USL)? Yes, it does exist! It’s utilized by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), offering an important way of communication while underwater. Drawing inspiration from some American Sign Language (ASL) signs, USL comprises a series of simple gestures enabling divers to convey essential messages while submerged. USL contains signs such as ‘OK,’ ‘problem,’ ‘up,’ ‘down,’ and more.

For aspiring SCUBA divers, proficiency in USL is part of the training curriculum. Mastering these underwater gestures enhances safety among divers. However, USL isn’t confined to professional divers alone. Recreational divers and snorkelers can also benefit, especially if they know ASL. Imagine the joy of sharing the wonders of the underwater world with deaf companions or ASL signers! You could even hold a full-fledged conversation under the water rather than say ‘OK,’ ‘up,’ ‘down,’ and so on.

If you’re interested in learning underwater-related ASL words, don’t hesitate to reach out to me! I’d be thrilled to teach you those words and beyond.

Let’s make waves, not just in the ocean, but in fostering inclusive and effective communication beneath the surface!
